BREAKING NEWS: First picture of huge 7lb plus specimen.
This is the first picture of the biggest whiting ever caught in the UK.
Total Sea Fishing broke the story of the gigantic specimen's capture earlier in the week when we learned that the fish had smashed the 30 year record after it was weighed in at 7lb 6oz.
The image of the fish with its captor Plymouth-based carpenter Mark Curtis, who has only been fishing for a year, shows the huge whiting appears to be ever ounce the weight, bettering the previous record of 6lb 12oz, which has stood since 1981.
"At first everyone thought it was a pollock just because of its size," said Mark who caught the fish aboard the Plymouth charter boat Sea Angler II on a Eddystone Eel in orange. "But as we examined a little closer it became clear it was a massive whiting. A friend of mine got me started fishing last year and I love it, I caught a 29lb cod on my first trip out."
